Badgers in my back garden!

Back when I was living in Burwash I was told by our neighbour that they have badgers come down to the bottom of their garden every night. So one night both my boyfriend and I decided to go down to the bottom of the garden with my camera and entice the badgers over to us so I could take some photos of them and here are some of my favourites…

Favourite Animal Shots!

Here are just a few of my photos that I took a while back now of sheep and cows/bulls in the fields by my parents house that I wanted to share with you all.. Enjoy!  

I like the way that this photo is laid out showing the trees in the middle, with the sheep more in the foreground and then I particularly like the way the telegraph pole is situated in the centre of the background to the photograph. The light hitting the trees and the way it shines across the grass of the fields are what originally attracted me to take this photo and I'm so glad I did, looking back on it now. 

This next photo may seem to be a bit dark, but it is mainly due to the lack of sunlight in the photograph and also the fact that the cows are mainly dark didn't really help me out too well I must admit! However, I like the way this photo can almost be made into 3 different sections, the cows in the field in the foreground, the cows in the field in the middle section of the photography and then the trees and lighter coloured fields in the background, it gives the photograph a much better sense of perspective. 

This photograph of the calf has to be one of my top favourite out of these photos as it came out particularly well, I happened to be very close to the calf but it was a bit tricky taking it as I had to keep an eye on my dog at the same time so I wasn't actually too sure how well it came out until I got back home and started editing these photos. I really like the way that it is looking straight at me! 

This photo is very effective as the cow black and white cow is in the midst of making a horrendous noise, only one can think that this was a female cow calling out to her calves with the amount of noise that 'she' was making! There is also a sense of peeking into the field with the angle at which this photo was taken, as well as the leaves that can be seen on the right of the photograph give a better sense of how close I really was to the cows!

Even though the effect that I used on this photo shown above doesn't really help the dark coloured cows to stand out too well you can still them them pretty well and also I do like the way this effect has made the photo much more eye catching than it originally was to look at. I have thought about possibly cropping the calf out however, but I'm still not decided fully on the idea just yet. 

This is another photo one of my favourite out of these particular photos because it shows two of the calves together as they got quite close to me, literally just before my dog scared them back off again so I was lucky to even get the photograph! I gave this photo a softer effect when editing it as it helps bring the colour of the grass out more and therefore then brings the darker colour of the calves out much more and the softer effect also seems to bring out the real texture of the calves hair which is very effective in this particular photograph. 

Both the photograph above and then one below show the bull that I saw in the field, which is considerably bigger than the other cows and very intimidating. It's quite rare to see bulls in fields with other calves as well due to their hostile nature so it was particularly surprising to be able to take these shots. 

 

This photo is very effective showing the ring on the bulls nose to clearly identify him. I also like the calf looking my way as if it's considerably interested in why I'm there and what I'm up to! 

 

Not only does the colouring effect in this photograph make it stand out well, but also the way that some of the sheep are actually looking directly at me when I took this photo. Also the colouring of the leaves on the trees in the distance are particularly effective in this photograph.  

I just like the way that the sheep in the middle is staring right at me, it literally makes this photo come together.. so thanks sheep haha!

My Photography Site

I am a freelance photographer hoping to get my name out there and start selling my work eventually. I am studying a part time course in Visual Communications through the Open College of the Arts in Barnsley and therefore I am only doing photography as a hobby for now.

AS Exam Final Piece

For my exam work I chose the subjects 'Splash' and 'Coloured Light'. I chose to work with water droplets as they are very unusual and different, and create amazing and unexpected shapes through the water. In the photograph above I added dissolved syrup to the water and then dropped blackcurrant cordial into the water to create the blend of the red and 'bluey' green amongst each other; what really stands out in this photgraph is the effect the red cordial has created on the droplet itself, with the interesting pattern around the small 'pot like' implosion in the surface of the water. The shadows amongst the ripples really help them to stand out well and almost make them come out of the photograph in th viewers eyes and this is helped well by the blackcurrant cordial merging throughout the water below the droplet effect. I really like the effect of the blurred background helping the foreground to stand out particularly well, and also the small red droplets that seem to have burst from the middle of the water implosion of colour, creating almost a splash of colour through the water.

AS Coursework Final Piece

For my coursework I was looking at 'Fashion Through the Ages', from 1920's right up to the present day. My photoshoot leading up to the final piece encorporated the 50s, with the black dress that the girl's wearing, and the 80s with the bright light of the sun and the bright colours surrounding the girl including the pink flowers which all contrast particularly well with the darker colours of the woodland and also the black dress. This piece, I feel, portrays the real intensity of both eras and the 'unusualness' of blending both together. I like how the girl is looking into the distance, creating a sense of mystery towards the photograph.
